After winning UK Community Coach of the Year, Alice said: “Coaching means a sense of community to me. I coach mostly those who are older, up into their nineties, and for many they have been on their own throughout the pandemic. In my classes there was a lot of depression, many suffering from isolation. That’s why it’s important to support everyone, because these are the people that need it most."
I offer up to 3 classes per week in Ickenham ensuring that regular fun dance exercise is available to all. Exercising regularly is proven to extend healthy years and stave off dementia. All my class members subscribe to my positivity culture of kindness and mutual respect, which are core class values. Alice also runs dance classes in other locations including Oxford, Bicester and Covent Garden.
In a study of women from 70-80 years, it was found that lower limb strength exercise and balance training is important for reducing falls.
Tailored exercises are recommended three times per week, each session lasting more than 30 minutes, and trying to walk whenever possible.
And I make it FUN!
Osteoporosis
Exercise plays an important role in building and maintaining of bone strength. Just like muscles, bones respond when they are stressed, in other words, when they are forced to bear more weight than they are used to.
Weight-bearing exercise and resistance exercise are particularly important in improving bone density and helping prevent osteoporosis.
